Our Members
The ACT Volunteer Brigades Association (or the VBA) represents all of Canberra’s volunteer rural firefighters who work with the Australian Capital Territory Rural Firefighting Service (the ACTRFS).
All ACTRFS volunteer firefighters automatically become ‘individual’ members of the VBA on appointment.
ACTRFS brigades which are ‘brigade’ members of the VBA and therefore have voting rights, nominate brigade representatives to work with the VBA Executive Team to advocate in respect of issues of concerns raised by individual volunteers and member brigades, and also to determine the strategic direction of the VBA.

Our ACTRFS brigades play a vital role in protecting, serving, and educating our local ACT communities in relation to grass, bush, and forest fires in the Territory’s rural spaces, and in helping to train Canberra’s volunteer firefighters to best serve our local, national, and international communities. At the ACTVBA, our mission includes helping our brigades and our volunteer firefighters protect, serve, and educate, their local communities through advocating for member education, well-being, safety, and recognition, by providing other support services, and by contributing to policy and legislative reform.
